HB 879 by House Speaker Jim Tucker (R-Terrytown) would restore some funding to hospitals statewide that lost a combined total of almost $800 million as a result of the last four major hurricanes. The funding was made available last fall through the work of our congressional delegation and their continued efforts to help our hospitals. “We commend Rep. Tucker, Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Secretary Alan Levine and our congressional delegation for working toward solutions to help stabilize our healthcare system,” said Bill Holman, LHA board chair and president and CEO of Baton Rouge General Medical Center, in a news release that was distributed Thursday.
