Consumer Health Provider Information System Bill Moves to the House
By: Jennifer McMahon
The House Insurance Committee reported SB 282 by Sen. Troy Hebert (D-New Iberia) favorably as amended on June 9. This bill would establish a consumer health provider disclosure system with web access. The bill will require health insurance issuers to post on their website, by facility, the contract status of hospital-based physicians or physician groups by specialty.
Hospitals will be required to notify health insurers of the physician or physician groups that provide hospital-based services at their facilities. Links to all health insurance issuer websites will be provided and available to the public on the Department of Insurance’s website. SB 282 now moves to the House floor for debate and vote.
The current version of SB 282 was a collaboration among health plan, hospital and physician representatives, under Sen. Hebert’s direction.
